As of April 5, 2011, Doosan Infracore Co., Ltd., announced that its CEO, Yongsung Kim, and the Dean of the School of Engineering, Seoul National University (SNU), Teajin Kang, had signed an agreement for the renewal of the school’s machine shop and the donation of machine tools.
According to the agreement, Doosan Infracore is going to make a total of 450 million won worth of donations, including two machine tools and the cost of renovating the machine shop. To commemorate such goodwill, SNU will name the machine shop the Doosan Infracore Machine Shop.
The Doosan Infracore machine shop will be used for machinery research. The benefit of this new facility is that researchers can perform studies in machine design, assembly, manufacturing, measurement, and assessment in one place.
At the signing ceremony, CEO Yongsung Kim said: “This is a kind of virtuous circle and an ideal relationship between corporate and academic culture because corporate culture is supporting the university’s research and the results of such research will benefit the company in return, thus sharpening its comparative edge.” He added: “We will continue to support academic research institutions in the future.”
In the meanwhile, CEO Yongsung Kim gave a special lecture to mechanical and aerospace engineering students after the signing ceremony.
