Doosan, Bobcat Equipment Shines in Suez Canal Expansion Project
In August, the launch of the “New Suez Canal,” an expanded waterway connecting Europe and Asia, was celebrated in Egypt. The construction has expanded the nearly 150-year-old canal, which has provided the shortest route for shipping between the East and the West, linking the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea, since its opening in 1869. It is said that Doosan and Bobcat equipment has played a significant role in the intensive construction work thanks to its outstanding performance.

On Aug. 5, the Suez Canal Expansion Project was launched to deepen and widen the main waterway, and provide ships with a 35-kilometer (22-mile) channel parallel to the main Suez Canal. The expansion project aimed to boost trade by providing the shortest route between Europe and Asia. The $8.2 billion project was carried out under a tight schedule with the construction schedule shortened by one-third.

Based on their excellent performance, Doosan and Bobcat machines have played a significant role in a construction project heralded as an historic achievement that will help boost the country’s economy. The Doosan and Bobcat equipment was delivered by Otrac Heavy Equipment (“Otrac”), a Doosan dealer in Egypt.

Otrac began as a Doosan dealer with the signing of a proprietary distribution agreement with Doosan in 1997, and now it deals with both Doosan and Bobcat equipment in Egypt. More than 60 percent of its 260 employees are dedicated to Aftermarket (AM)/ Product Support (PS), providing excellent PS services to customers. Otrac was selected as the “Best AM Distributor” in the Doosan dealer meeting in 2013 and “Outstanding Dealer” in the Key Performance Index (KPI) in 2014.

Hatem Ouda, Chairman of Otrac Heavy Equipment, said: “Otrac is an established market leader in Egypt in both Doosan excavators and Bobcat compact loaders, supplying many Doosan and Bobcat machines in both the public and private sectors. Our company has had the business philosophy of ensuring customers’ success and satisfaction and increasing Doosan’s market share and reputation in the Egyptian market. Our success would not have been possible without the full assistance of and collaboration with Doosan Construction Equipment to fully achieve our goals. We thank all the teams at Doosan and Bobcat who together have been our ‘Real Business Partner.’”

Doosan Infracore has enjoyed the largest market share, at about 38 percent, in Egypt’s excavator market for the past five years. Doosan wheel loaders have maintained a 10 percent market share for the past three years, and Bobcat’s compact loaders account for more than 70 percent of the market.
