Doosan Infracore deployed two remote-controlled Bobcat compact track loaders inside a Fukushima nuclear power plant last week.

Doosan Infracore Co., Ltd., announced that it had deployed its construction equipment to Japan’s Fukushima nuclear plant in order to remove debris from inside of the power plant where the radiation level is too high for people to work.

Today (24th), Doosan Infracore (CEO Yongsung Kim) revealed that last week it had sent two remote-controlled compact track loaders, made by Bobcat, on a recovery mission inside of the Fukushima power plant.

The equipment mobilized at the site is a T300 compact track loader equipped with a grapple. It is also armed with seven cameras, heat sensors, radio transceivers, and radiation sensors. It has been specifically designed to be able to take care of unexpected circumstances at the site.

It is a small device that can maneuver on rubber caterpillar tracks and can be remote-controlled from a distance of up to 13 kilometers, making it capable of conducting many types of mission, including digging, loading, and pushing, even within a very limited space.

This support initiative was arranged by QinetiQ North America in response to Japan’s request for the provision of recovery equipment. The request was made last March, and QinetiQ North America asked Doosan Infracore to send its Bobcat T300 because of it is easy-to-operate and durable.

Doosan Infracore also passed on the techniques necessary to operate the equipment to personnel at Tokyo Electric Power. The company, last week, had already provided operators and construction equipment, such as ten skid steer roaders and one excavator.
